Intense blackberry and blueberry aromas as well as mushroom undertones. Violets, too. Sweet tobacco. Full-bodied and layered with polished tannins. Very long and beautiful. Give it two or three years to show what it has but already a beauty.

Sattes Purpur-Granat, dicht in der Mitte, lila Schimmer aussen. Parfümiertes Bouquet, wunderschöne Röstnote, welche aber deutlich von den Barriques her stammen, ein Hauch Amarena, Brotkruste, reife Pflaumen, er hat aber auch eine schöne, frische Note darin. Im Gaumen erstaunlich elegant, die Tannine sind fondiert, will heissen angerundet, eine traumhafte Kokossüsse geht vom Extrakt aus. Kein Monster - aber halt doch sehr modern vinifiziert. Hat mir Spass bereitet und zeigt auch deutlich auf, dass das Pessac, der Region Léognan in diesem Jahr haushoch überlegen ist.

The 2014 Pape Clement has quite a potent bouquet with lavish red cherry, kirsch, iodine and pastille-like scents, the oak probably needing another couple of years to fully integrate. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity, quite refined and focused with appreciable tension towards the finish that comes laden with succulent, tobacco-infused blackberry fruit. This is a sumptuous and yet refined Pape-Clement that demonstrated the most matière or substance out of all the Pessac-Léognan 2014s that I tasted, except for the Haut-Brion. It is certainly a wine destined for a long future.

Château Pape Clément
Château Pape Clément è uno dei più antichi vigneti Grand Cru Classé di Bordeaux. Con una storia che risale al XIII secolo, l'illustre Château fu fondato da Bertrand de Goth, l'arcivescovo di Bordeaux che, alcuni decenni dopo, nel 1305, divenne Papa con il nome di Clemente V. Lo Château ereditò così il suo nome. Nel 1939 la famiglia Montagne acquistò la tenuta, che ora è di proprietà di un cultore del vino, Bernard Magrez. Nascosta tra i sobborghi di Pessac, la proprietà di 32,5 ettari produce soprattutto vini rossi, con solo 2,5 ettari piantati con vitigni a bacca bianca. Entrambi i vini rappresentano il meglio delle denominazioni: il Pape Clément Rouge è un vino denso ma accessibile, mentre la piccola produzione di Pape Clément Blanc è un bianco elegante, decisamente complesso, con note cremose di legno nuovo. Oggi lo Château vanta i migliori claret di Pessac-Léognan e continua a esprimere l'essenza del terroir con eleganza.
