Young and unevolved, with a foundation of resonating tannins, it builds in intensity through the long finish. Impressive. Best from 2010 through 2035. 225 cases made. –BS93 Robert ParkerThough Roumier?s holdings in Bonnes Mares are equally divided between the ?white? and ?red? soils, the latter produced substantially more fruit in 2003, being better equipped ? thanks to the water retaining clay ? to cope with the heat and drought. Deep, earthy aromas of black fruits can be discerned in its complex nose. Powerful, armed with huge depth, this big, tannic, highly structured wine is dominated by brambleberries and blackberries. Its exceptionally long finish reveals a slight hint of alcoholic heat. Projected maturity: 2008-201991 VinousGood medium red. Exotic aromas of truffle, pepper, licorice and earth, with a suggestion of red berry liqueur. Then powerful and peppery in the mouth, with less obvious sweetness than the vintage would suggest. Finishes with powerful, broad tannins and building peppery persistence. Very Bonnes-Mares in style: somber and brooding. Roumier says this reminds him of the 1990. Producer Domaine RoumierOne of the great estates in Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Georges Roumier was founded in 1924 by Georges Roumier. Georges began domaine-bottling in 1945, and this was later carried on by his son, Jean-Marie and later in turn, carried on by his son, Christophe in 1982. Christophe is currently at the helm. Most of the vines are rented from family members (en fermage) while the Ruchottes-Chambertin is on a sharecropping contract (en métayage). The estate produces some of the top appellations, including both Chambolle Grand Crus - Bonnes-Mares and Musigny - as well as two of Chambolle's best Premier Crus - Les Cras and Les Amoureuses. The wines are vinified in wooden vats which are temperature-controlled to better respect the freshness of the fruit. Christophe's goals over the years have been to produce more and more precise wines and he has been succeeding, as they are some of the most refined, polished and sculpted in the region.
