Pretty aromas of raspberries and mushrooms. Medium-bodied, with firm tannins and a long, fresh aftertaste. A bit lean, but beautifully aromatic. Second label of Ch?teau Ph?lan-Segur. Best after 2001
Producer
Château Phélan Ségur

In 1810, Irish merchant Bernard Phélan brought together Clos de Garramey and Domaine Ségur-Cabanac to make one of the largest properties in the Médoc. Later, his son Frank Phélan also contributed to its development. The château is ideally situated in the heart of the Saint-Estèphe village, overlooking the Gironde estuary with a certain majesty. The integration of the cellars and the main château have given Phélan Ségur its unique character. Since 1985, the position of the château has been ensured by the Gardinier family, well-known for their prestigious restaurant, and hospitality activities. Château Phélan Ségur is a family property; Philippe Van de Vyvere and his son Pierre have owned it since January 2018. Planted on the brilliantly well-drained clay-gravelly soils, the vineyards stretch over 70-hectares across the hills and plateaux of Saint-Estèphe. Precise viticulture based on experience, and an intra-parcel approach is managed with the greatest respect to nature – justly expressing the complexity of this distinctive terroir. Along with their detail-oriented vinification practices, Phélan Ségur successfully preserves the purity of their fruit while seamlessly incorporating oak essences. In classic Phélan Ségur style, the wines always show great finesse and elegance, developing beautifully with age.

Château Phélan Ségur belongs to the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux. The Place de Bordeaux lists Château Phélan Ségur in the category of "Grands Crus Classés and Assimilés". Château Phélan Ségur left the Alliance des Crus Bourgeois with the 2007 vintage.
